About Dr Nicholas Tsai

I arrived in Australia in 1986 with my family.  As a teenager, it was a struggle going through high school as English was a new language to me.  I went on to the University of Sydney to study six years of medicine. In my fourth year, I stumbled upon orthopaedic surgery during an elective term, this really inspired me – I had found something that is innovative, interesting and at the same time, changes people’s lives.

This passion was followed by a long and arduous journey which took me through numerous exams and interviews as well as 15 hospitals across NSW and ACT, to finally gain my qualification as an orthopaedic surgeon in Australia.  I was fortunate and grateful to have worked with many skillful and empathetic mentors along the way.

Although I thrive on trauma surgery and enjoy hip and knee reconstructions, I decided to focus on a very challenging and evolving field – spinal surgery.  I then completed an international fellowship with AO Spine in 2009.  I returned to Canberra in 2010 and have been working in private and public hospitals since.

Dr Nicholas Tsai offers consultations in Woden ACT.
