About Dr Alexander Burns
Dr Burns travelled overseas to gain particular experience in hip arthroscopy surgery, visiting Dr Chris Larson in Minnesota, one of the worlds most respected hip arthroscopy surgeons. Arthroscopic hip surgery is technically difficult, and requires a significant degree of training to be effective and safe, but it is now understood as an important part of managing the hip from adolescence onwards.
Joint replacement surgery is very common now as the Australian population is aging, and has the potential to allow people back to activity and reduce pain.
Revision joint surgery, which removes and replaces a worn out replacement is newer and more specialised and, requires understanding of different approaches, uses different prostheses, and uses techniques such as bone grafting. Generally this surgery needs subspecialist training due to the increased complexity involved.
